How much does attic insulation cost?
The costs of attic insulation will depend on the amount of foam required, the depth of foam used and the area to be insulated.
The main costs are of course the amount of material used and the amount of labour used to complete the job as well as the distance traveled.
Attics are insulated with open cell spray foam insulation. Building regulations require that a 50mm air gap is maintained between the insulation material and the roofing felt, unless the roof has been counter battened.
Open cell spray foam expands to over 200 times its size and is able to fill every available nook and cranny creating an airtight seal. Because of its open cells the foam allows water vapour to pass through the foam and leave the structure via the 50mm air gap.
Do I require a 50mm air gap?
If you are insulating an attic, a 50mm air gap is required between the roofing felt or breathable membrane and insulation material. This requires a breathable vent card to be attached to the rafters, this will add to the costs.
Below are approximate costs for attic insulation using open cell spray foam insulation with a breathable vent card.
